A Message from our CEO

September is National DSP Week, where across the country companies are celebrating their Direct Support Professionals. We spend an entire week showering our DSP’s with little treats and goodies to help promote, empower, encourage and thank them for their efforts in working towards our mission. DSP’s are the lifeline of our organization, making up about 60% of our workforce.

Illinois ranks almost at the bottom (47th) among states for spending commitment for people with disabilities and it’s estimated there are 27,000 children and adults with developmental disabilities in our state that rely on services. Without DSP’s, our services would look very different. DSP’s are job coaches, teachers, financial managers, caregivers, therapists, personal care consultants, behavioral interventionists, volunteers, friends, advocates, the list goes on and on. Whatever someone needs, a DSP will be there. At EP!C we are a family and we are so thankful for our staff who work around the clock day in and day out to make a difference. Our community is stronger because EP!C empowers people with disabilities to work, volunteer, and get involved. Thank you for being an EP!C supporter.

Leaving a Legacy

Did you know taxpayers age 70 ½ or older can transfer up to $100,000 annually (and up to $200,000 per year for married couples) from their IRA accounts directly to charity without first having to recognize the distribution as income?

A Charitable IRA Rollover or Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) makes it easier to use IRA assets, during lifetime, to make charitable gifts. If you have not already taken your required minimum distribution in a given year, a qualifying rollover gift can count toward satisfying this requirement. Another way to donate IRA assets to charity is through your estate after you pass away by naming the charity as the designated beneficiary of your IRA. The charity will receive whatever percentage of your IRA assets you provide for on the beneficiary form.

As with any gift planning question, donors should consult their tax professionals for specific advice. More questions: Contact Chad Cunningham at ccunningham@epicci.org or 309.689.3771.

EP!C Employees

Our Employee of the month for July was Stephanie Farmer. Her nominator said “Stephanie went above and beyond the day-to-day requirements of a DSP. When a toilet broke in one of the houses she took initiative and used her MacGyver-like skills to keep it in working order until maintenance could order a part and get it fixed.”

Nancy Vorrath was named our August 2019 Employee of the Month. “Nancy is always smiling and is a positive influence on staff and individuals around her. She purchases items for the class room out of her own pocket and creates holiday displays to bring vibrancy and excitement to her area.”

An EP!C Partnership

EP!C is proud to announce we have established a partnership with the Ronald McDonald House of Central Illinois. We have been commissioned to create one-of-a-kind artwork to bring color and joy to their walls and create their dinnerware sets so their guests feel like they are eating at home for one wing of their new Peoria facility. The staff at Ronald McDonald House saw the value and uniqueness our EP!Casso program offers.

Individuals participating in our EP!Casso program have been hard at work for the past several months creating beautiful pieces. Our artists know they will be making a difference by contributing to the comfort and positive experiences of people going through a difficult time. The connection for our two organizations is much more than just the love of art. Many of the individuals coming through their doors may one day need the services EP!C provides. It helps to let families know organizations like ours are there for them.

This project wouldn’t be possible without a grant provided by the members of Grace and Peace Lutheran Church.
