March / April 2020

The Illinois Department of Human Services has stated that our Townline facility must close until April 15th.

The building will only be accessible to assigned Townline staff. Visitors at our other sites are also asked to be restricted if possible. If visitors have to attend they will be asked health questions upon arrival. All individuals living in an EP!C Group Home or Host Home or other Supported Living will need to stay home until at least April 15th. Together we will get through these challenges. We continually look to provide safe and healthy environments for our staff, our community and ultimately the people we support. Thank you for your continued cooperation and understanding.

A message from our CEO

Last month I had the pleasure of attending a legislative session in Springfield through our involvement with Illinois Partners, a network comprised of over 800 Human Service organizations across the state.

We met with key decision-makers who sit on the Human Services Appropriations Committee to advocate the importance of the work we do and how imperative it is to get the support we need.

During the Governor’s budget address, J. B. Pritzker shared his optimism for Illinois’ future. The areas of specific interest to EP!C, the people we serve, families, and staff, include an investment in improving wages for front line staff and reducing the waiting list of people needing funding for support and services. This year’s proposed budget of $7.4 billion for the Illinois Department of Human Services is 7.3% higher than last year. We appreciate the Governor, including services for people with disabilities in the proposed budget, and we will continue to advocate for funding to stay ahead of the minimum wage increases into 2025.

EP!C Employees

Our first Employee of the Month for 2020 was Troy Henry. Troy was nominated because he “always takes pride in his work, no matter what the task. He ensures that the people EP!C supports and our employees have a clean and safe environment. His dedication to his job and the continual positivity that Troy demonstrates makes him a true asset to our agency.”

Tamera Gordon was named our Employee of the Month for February. Her nominator said “She steps into roles that need filled immediately to provide exceptional support to the people they work with on a daily basis…Tamera is the backbone of the classrooms, always on time, and ready to work…She ensures people have enriching experiences on outings as well as in the classrooms.”

EP!C Wellness Center

Healthier individuals result in a better quality of life and healthier employees result in better services for the people we support.

Over the past year we have been working to increase our partnership with Anytime Fitness Peoria. Back in May 2019 we announced that they were hiring Josh from our Job Placement program to become a certified trainer and in December we announced the opening of our new and improved EP!C Wellness Center.

Josh is now certified and along with other ATFP coaches, teaching classes for both individuals and our staff in the EP!C Wellness Center. We have always had an exercise program for the people who use our services, but nothing at this level or one that staff could also benefit from. For us to be able to encourage staff to take the time to focus on themselves and team build with co-workers through a workout class is invaluable.

DD AWARENESS

March is National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

A time to educate our communities on the needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and reflect on the progress made toward improving the quality of life for them.

You can help by sharing EP!C with your connections.
